This project creates a new vibrant community within an existing suburban neighbourhood. Larger stand along four-bedroom homes are presented to Parkhaven Drive that relate to the existing grain of the suburb. Two and three-bedroom terrace homes and a walk-up apartment building are grouped around a well-design landscaped shared space and community garden. JOAL carparking is provided for all residence.
A new slow-speed landscaped shared access road to the south of the site, adjoining the park, creates an entry to this new community. Front doors are presented to the shared space and provide positive overlooking and good CPTED principles to the park.
Drury Pottery and Fireclay bricks was a local brickmaker that operated from around 1858 to 1930, and was one of the earliest brickmakers in the country (according to the Papakura Museum information). Brick is used as a primary cladding material as a reference to this early local industry. Alongside the historical reference, we have used brick as the predominant cladding material as it is extremely durable, low maintenance, has a low life cycle cost, and helps create a sense of permanence for this newly formed community. Bonding and brick details have been used to add interest.
Brick as a cladding material has been used extensively within the existing neighbourhood and the use of brick in this new development assists in integrating this new community within an existing suburban fabric.
The project provides accessible two and three-bedroom apartments within the development. Accessible car parking and routes to these dwellings have been designed and delivered.
